Event: Fifth Trondheim Conference on Biodiversity [viewed]

Hosted by the Norwegian Government in cooperation with UNEP, this conference aims to provide input to the CBD and its preparations for the ninth Conference of the Parties (COP-9), to be held in Germany in 2008. Its key objectives will be to: illustrate the role of biodiversity in poverty alleviation and in reaching the Millennium Development Goals, demonstrate the critical role of biodiversity and ecosystems in securing sustainable development, consider progress on the 2010 target on reduced loss of biodiversity, identify and consider possible efforts towards 2010 and beyond, present and consider difficult trade-offs, and provide insights and inspiration for implementation of the CBD Strategic Plan.

Event: Conserv-vision Conference [viewed]

This conference is organized by the University of Waikato and the New Zealand Department of Conservation. Its goals are to bring together practitioners, scientists, policy-makers and conservation advocates from New Zealand and elsewhere to: review and evaluate the achievements of the past 20 years of conservation management in New Zealand; consider future challenges for conservation agencies; and assess the ways in which conservation agencies might best achieve their goals for conservation outcomes in 2050 and beyond.

Event: 6th session of the Codex Task Force on Foods Derived from Biotechnology [viewed]

This meeting will address: a proposed draft guideline for the conduct of food safety assessment of foods derived from GM animals; a proposed draft annex to the guideline for the conduct of food safety assessment of foods derived from GM plants, regarding plants modified for nutritional or health benefits; and a discussion paper on sanitary surveillance of foods derived from biotechnology after being placed on the market.
