9 September 2011: The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) has adopted an Environmental Strategy to guide its financing of sustainable development projects in Central America and promote environmental principles in its practices.
6 September, 2011: The EU Court of Justice has ruled that products containing pollen derived from genetically modified organisms (GMO) have to be considered the same as foodstuffs produced from GMOs, and cannot be sold without prior authorization.
August 2011: The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) has published a set of recommendations developed by a focus group, aimed at improving the IPPC standard setting process.
23 August 2011: The Andean Community's (CAN) chief decision making body, the Council of Foreign Ministers, adopted a legally binding Decision creating an Andean Strategy for the Integrated Management of Water Resources (known by its Spanish acronym, GIRH). It is estimated that CAN accounts for 10 percent of the world's freshwater.
22 August 2011: The 61st session of the Standing Committee of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES SC 61) considered a complex agenda and agreed to recommendations on several topics, including trade and conservation issues in great apes, elephants, tigers, rhinoceroses, sturgeons, ramin, bigleaf mahogany and other species.
15 August 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced that Parties to the Tehran Convention on the environmental protection of the Caspian region have agreed to new protocols on: Regional Preparedness, Response and Cooperation in Combating Oil Pollution Incidents; and environmental impact assessment.
28 July 2011: The Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) agreed to recommend that the WIPO General Assembly renew its mandate for the 2012-2013 biennium.
27 July 2011: The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has agreed to establish a committee of experts on global geospatial information management to coordinate international dialogue on spatial data infrastructures and enhance cooperation in that field.
25 July 2011: The 25th meeting of the Animals Committee (AC 25) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) laid the groundwork for responding to the multiple mandates received from the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to CITES in March 2010.
22 July 2011: The 13th regular session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Commission on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA 13) has: adopted the Second Global Plan of Action for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (PGRFA); established an Ad hoc Technical Working Group on Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS) for genetic resources for food and agriculture (GRFA); and developed a roadmap for climate change and GRFA.
