Proposed Reform of EU Common Fisheries Policy Unveiled [viewed]

13 July 2011: The European Commission has unveiled its proposals for reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), seeking to secure fish stocks and fishermen's livelihood for the future while putting an end to overfishing and depletion of fish stocks. The reform is expected to lead to a decentralized approach to science-based fisheries management by region and sea basin, and better governance standards in the EU and at the international level through sustainable fisheries agreements.

MAB Adds 18 Sites to World Network of Biosphere Reserves [viewed]

30 June 2011: The International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has added 18 new sites to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR), bringing the total number of sites to 580. The new sites are located in Canada, Chile, China, Ghana, Jordan, Lithuania, Maldives, Portugal, the Russian Federation, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Sweden, Togo, Ukraine, Yemen, Israel, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Viet Nam.
