27 September 2012: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced it is providing US$600 million of loans to the Government of China for waste to energy, greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction, and protection of wetlands projects.
26 September 2012: The Andean Community (CAN) convened wildlife officials and managers from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru and invited regional experts to discuss wildlife management in CAN's Amazonian regions, focused on "priority species." The 24-26 September 2012 workshop held in Lima, Peru was coordinated by the Wildlife Conservation Society with guidance from CAN's biodiversity program, BioCAN.
20 September 2012: The World Bank approved a US$40 million loan to prevent forest fires and promote sustainable forest management in the Russian Federation in an effort to protect forests and limit related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
4 September 2012: The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) and the UN Development Programme's (UNDP) Regional Center for Latin America and the Caribbean organized a symposium on "Sharing Lessons of Green Business for Biodiversity, Renewable Energy and Climate Change," from 23-24 August 2012, in the City of Knowledge, Panama City, Panama.
10 September 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is providing support for a project, implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), to implement a transboundary management agreement for the long-term sustainable management of protected areas and their buffer zones in the Bia-Diambarakro area, at the frontier between Ghana and Cote D'Ivoire.
20 September 2012: The winners of the MIDORI Prize, organized by the AEON Environmental Foundation in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), have been announced. The prize is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity at global, regional or local levels.
19 September 2012: A workshop of Latin American journalists and other communicators organized by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Tropical Agriculture Center for Research and Higher Education (CATIE) has led to the creation of a new "Network of Forest and Environmental Communicators."
10 September 2012: The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) of North America held a workshop bringing together scientists and government officials from Mexico and the US to set priorities for conservation of the important Big Bend/Río Bravo cross-border ecosystem. The Workshop was held 7 September 2012 in Mexico City.
18 September 2012: Luc Gnacadja, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), and Li Congjun, President Xinhua News Agency, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to spread news regarding land restoration globally.
17 September 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) has highlighted its support for the protection of the Kikuyu Escarpment Forest through a youth-led project that has received several international awards. The GEF SGP project protects biodiversity at risk from illegal timber harvesting, encroachment and poor resource management.
