CGRFA Releases Report of Sixth Technical Meeting on Plant Genetic Resources [viewed]
January 2013: The Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA) of Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the report of the sixth meeting of the Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (PGRFA), held from 14-16 November 2012, in Rome, Italy. The Working Group's recommendations will be considered by the CGRFA at its 14th meeting, to be held from 15-19 April 2013, in Rome, Italy.
21 February 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released the Third African Environment Outlook (AEO-3) Summary for Policy Makers, commissioned by the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN). The report focuses on the links between environment and health, and includes subsections on: air quality; biodiversity; chemicals and waste; climate change and variability; coastal and marine resources; freshwater and sanitation; and land.
5 February 2013: An evaluation conducted by the Internal Evaluation Group (IEG) of the World Bank Group (WBG) gives mixed marks to the Bank's performance on the three objectives related to conservation, poverty alleviation and economic development set forth in its 2002 Forest Strategy.
19 February 2013: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in collaboration with the Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD), and the Cameroon Association of Research on Biodiversity and Development (ACBIODEV), has released a publication titled "Making a living with forest insects: beetles as an income source in Southwest Cameroon."
February 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has made available the report of the workshop on capacity building for pilot countries on the implementation of synergies among the Rio Conventions.
18 February 2013: Bioversity International released a series of training materials on forest genetic resources aimed at increasing knowledge among non-specialists.
January 2013: The Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI) has released a policy brief, titled "Environmental Impact Assessments in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction" (ABNJ), which highlights gaps in the current framework on Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) in ABNJ.
20 February 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a compendium of Global Environmental Goals (GEGs), aiming to inform governments and relevant stakeholders and promote cooperation in achieving their objectives in a more coherent and harmonized manner. The publication was announced in a UNEP Conference Room Paper (UNEP/GCSS.XII/CRP.2), dated 20 February 2013.
18 February 2013: A new brief from Bioversity International, titled "Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Improve Livelihoods in Yemen," examines the livelihood impacts of a set of interventions related to the conservation and use of neglected and underutilized species.
