18 March 2011: At the Fourth Session of the Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant and Genetic Resources (ITPGR), which convened from 14-18 March 2011, delegates adopted procedures and mechanisms on compliance and reached consensus on the long-standing item of the financial rules of the Governing Body.
15 March 2011: In the February Issue of its Monthly Bulletin, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) highlights several recent activities, including the opening for signature of the Nagoya Protocol.
March 2011: This academic research article, authored by Janet E. Carpenter and published in the Journal Landes Bioscience, conducts a review of the existing peer-reviewed literature on potential impacts of genetically modified (GM) crops on biodiversity.
March 2011: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has published the latest issue of its UNCCD News publication. Issue 2.6 focuses on the issues of agroforestry and UNCCD activities related to assessing the economics of desertification, land degradation and drought.
15 March 2011: In a new report, a survey carried out by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2010 shows that local populations living close to protected areas in West Africa earn an additional 40% of their income from activities related to these areas. The findings highlight protected areas' potential for reinforcing sustainable development as well as conservation, according to IUCN.
March 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), have published a booklet titled "Biodiversity and Livelihoods: REDD-plus Benefits."
February 2011: Bioversity International has released the February issue of its "Newsletter for Europe." The newsletter describes several meetings and projects being undertaken or recently completed related to agriculture, biodiversity and genetic resources, including the meeting of the Steering Committee for the European Cooperative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR), held from 14-16 December 2010, in Bratislava, Slovakia.
10 March 2001: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a report titled "Global Honey Bee Colony Disorders and Other Threats to Insect Pollinators," which shows that bee colonies worldwide are under threat, with serious consequences for biodiversity and food security.
8 March 2011: The 43rd issue of Arborvitae, the IUCN Forest Conservation Programme's Newsletter, is subtitled "Attending to Gender" and highlights gender-related initiatives, including those related to climate change, forests and land tenure.
4 March 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has published the 50th-51st issue of the Quarterly Report of the Convention, covering the period 1 July-31 December 2010.
