4 July 2011: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has released a paper titled "Improved methods for carbon accounting for bioenergy: Descriptions and evaluations." The paper explains that because bioenergy is counted under the UNFCCC as originating from the land-use sector rather than the energy sector, bioenergy emissions are often not fully accounted for in countries with greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions obligations.

23 June 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) participated in a meeting of the national coordinators of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Mangroves Ecosystem for Climate Change and Livelihoods (MESCAL) project, which followed up on progress of the project and sought to ensure that MESCAL activities fit with the new Regional Wetlands Action Plan for Pacific Islands.

This event, hosted by the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), will be part of the 20th Annual Conference of the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) on 24-27 June 2011. In the first part of the colloquium, Clive James, ISAAA Chair, will speak on Global State of Crop Biotechnology. William Dar, ICRISAT Director General, will deliver the inaugural address, and Ang Peng Hwa, Chairman of AMIC, and SR Rao, Advisor to DBT-GOI, will deliver special addresses. The second part will be devoted to a tour of PTTC at the ICRISAT campus and a dialogue with the media. The colloquium is jointly organized by AMIC, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), the Department of Biotechnology-Government of India (DBT-GOI), and the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA). ICRISAT is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research.

10 June 2011: A joint meeting of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Liaison Group on Bushmeat and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Central Africa Bushmeat Working Group concluded that classic approaches and international efforts are not reversing the growing bushmeat trade, and adopted a set of recommendations to the international community.

3 June 2011: The Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Three Rainforest Basins, namely the Amazon, Congo, and Borneo-Mekong basins, took place in Brazzaville, Congo, from 27 May-3 June 2011, to establish new ways to increase technical cooperation on forest matters, and adopted a joint statement on tropical forests, climate and sustainable development.

27 May 2011: Bioversity International has released the first module in a Training Guide for non-specialists, titled "Forest Genetic Resources," to help practitioners make decisions related to in situ and ex situ conservation, threats and small populations of individual plant species. The first module focuses on Species Genetic Conservation, including conservation paradigms, biological corridors, genetic processes with small populations, and threats identification.

13 May 2011: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the Africa Rice Center held a Regional Workshop on Seed Policy in West Africa, during which participating agricultural experts called for development of "food security crops" (rice, millet, sorghum, cowpeas and maize).
