8 August 2011: The Pacific Island Forum Secretariat (PIFS) has announced that Pacific fisheries and trade Ministers are meeting this week in an effort to advance consideration of fisheries-related issues arising from the Pacific African, Caribbean and Pacific (PACP) – European Union (EU) Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
2 August 2011: The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has released an updated version of its guidance document on post-market environmental monitoring (PMEM) of genetically modified (GM) plants.
28 July 2011: The 22nd issue of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Biotechnology Update provides up-to-date information on OECD activities related to biotechnology, including applications of biotechnology for green growth and sustainable development, and climate change adaptation.
1 August 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has released the reports of two regional workshops on the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress, in Africa and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
July 2011: The ninth issue of "Biosafety Protocol News," a magazine published by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), focuses on national administrative systems for biosafety. Contributions to the issue outline experiences and lessons learned from Africa, Asia, the EU, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
19 July 2011: The Council for Agriculture and Fisheries of the EU, which gathers fisheries ministers of the EU member States, began its consideration of the European Commission's proposed reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) in a public debate.
The objectives for this meeting are to: provide an opportunity for Pacific countries to reach a consensus on common positions; enhance negotiation skills of country delegates; develop a strategy for effective participation at COP 10; and develop a "One Pacific Voice" at COP 10 through side events and exhibitions showcasing success stories and sustainable land management.
13 July 2011: The European Commission has unveiled its proposals for reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), seeking to secure fish stocks and fishermen's livelihood for the future while putting an end to overfishing and depletion of fish stocks. The reform is expected to lead to a decentralized approach to science-based fisheries management by region and sea basin, and better governance standards in the EU and at the international level through sustainable fisheries agreements.
13 July 2011: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) launched a pilot exercise on tracking impact indicators at the national level. The "inception workshop" for the exercise concluded with an action plan for pilot countries to apply impact indicators on Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought (DLDD), at the national level.
13 July 2011: The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has published "Future directions for biodiversity action in Europe overseas: Outcomes of the Review of the Implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), December 2010," which reviews the status of implementation of the CBD and its relevance to Europe overseas.
