1 May 2012: The May 2012 issue of the "Micronesia Challenge Newsletter," published by the Micronesia Challenge Secretariat, features articles on: the outcomes of the 15th Micronesian Island Conservation (MIC) Retreat; and the endorsement of Palau's first National Water Policy by its President, Johnson Toribiong.
The International Polar Year (IPY) 2012 Conference draws international attention to the polar regions, global change, and related environmental, social and economic issues. Organized around the theme "From Knowledge to Action," the event brings together over 2,000 Arctic and Antarctic researchers, policy- and decision-makers, and a broad range of interested parties from academia, industry, NGO, education and circumpolar communities including indigenous peoples. The conference seeks to build on the momentum of IPY 2007-2008, which increased understanding of how indigenous knowledge could be combined with instrumented data in monitoring the changes in polar ice, snow and vegetation cover, marine and terrestrial animal migrations, and behavioral patterns of polar animals, birds, fish and cetacean species.
24 April 2012: The second session of a plenary meeting on the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) ended with the adoption of a resolution establishing the IPBES, following seven years of discussion. It also selected Bonn, Germany, as the physical location of the Platform's Secretariat. Other modalities and institutional arrangements also were considered.
19 April 2012: FOREST EUROPE (The Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe) and the UN Economic Council for Europe/UN Food and Agriculture Organization (UNECE/FAO) are inviting the users of, and contributors to, the State of Europe's Forests 2011 Report (SoEF 2011) to complete a brief on-line survey about their experiences.
15 April 2012: Approximately 50 participants discussed stakeholders' engagement in the future Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) during the second Stakeholder Day, which was convened by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and UN Development Programme (UNDP).
23 March 2012: The International Conference on Wetland Forests, which was co-hosted by Wetlands International and the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources of Brunei Darussalam through the Forestry Department, considered the theme "forests biodiversity – towards green economy." The event aimed to promote sustainable management of Brunei's peat forests and mangrove forests.

14 March 2012: The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) has reported on progress made on including genomic-level information in its free and open access biodiversity databases, which are available online.
March 2012: The Chairs' Summary of an informal international expert workshop on "Policy support through relevant tools and methodologies" has been published. Workshop participants focused on the policy support function of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
