EU-Africa Summit Outlines Actions on Peace and Security, Prosperity and People [viewed]

4th European Union EU-Africa Summit4 April 2014: Delegates to the Fourth EU-Africa Summit agreed on a Declaration outlining commitments on peace and security, prosperity and people. Leaders also adopted a declaration on migration and mobility, and a road map to frame EU-Africa relations in 2014-2017. The EU committed to provide more than €28 billion to Africa through bilateral cooperation.

Coral Triangle Reef Fish Valued at US$3 Billion [viewed]

Coral Triangle InitiativeOctober 2013: The Coral Triangle Initiative has released a study, titled ‘The Economics of Fisheries and Aquaculture in the Coral Triangle,' which was commissioned to estimate the cost to protect and conserve Coral Triangle Ecosystems. The report estimates that reef fish are worth US$3 billion, and that coral reef ecosystems support employment of about 15 million small-scale fishers.

ADB, International Rice Research Institute Collaborate on Climate-Resilient Rice [viewed]

ADB25 September 2013: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced it is collaborating with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) to develop climate-resilient rice, as part of efforts to boost productivity in water-scarce and drought-prone areas. A first technical assistance project resulted in a yield increase of up to 30% with reduced water use.

Event: Harnessing Natural Resource Wealth for Inclusive Growth and Economic Development [viewed]

This conference will focus on policies for sustainable and inclusive economic growth in natural resource rich countries. Key issues include ways to strengthen the macro-fiscal framework and strategies for economic diversification. The event will discuss shared lessons from regional and global perspectives with representatives from a number of diverse resource-rich countries in Asia and the Pacific, as well as Africa and the Caribbean, and will conclude with a high-level Policy Round Table Discussion. The organizers are the International Monetary Fund (IMF), jointly with the Government of Timor-Leste, and in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, and Japan International Cooperation Agency.
