Event: CBD Workshop for Eastern and Southern Africa on Ecosystem Conservation and Restoration [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), this capacity-building workshop for Southern and Eastern Africa will focus on ecosystem conservation and restoration to support achievement of the Aichi biodiversity targets. It aims to support parties in the development of national targets and plans for ecosystem conservation and restoration within the framework of Aichi Targets 5, 11 and 15; the integration of these targets and plans into updated national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs) and mainstreaming into broader national policies, plans and programmes; and the use of appropriate assessments, policy and planning tools to implement ecosystem conservation and restoration strategies at appropriate levels.

Event: CBD Workshop for Asia and the Pacific on Resource Mobilization [viewed]

This workshop is one of a series of regional workshops to support parties in the establishment of robust baselines and reporting frameworks, and the preparation of national financial plans for biodiversity. Its emphasis will be on exchange of national experiences and active learning, and the step-by-step development of individualized and prioritized action plans towards the development of national finance plans. It is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).

CPF Calls for Nominations for the Wangari Maathai Award [viewed]

CFPApril 2014: The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) has announced the opening of nominations for the Wangari Maathai Award 2014. The award will be issued to an individual who has achieved success in the preservation, restoration and sustainable management of forests for the benefit of local communities, rural livelihoods, women and the environment.

UEBT Survey Says Consumers Want Biodiversity Conservation [viewed]

UEBT8 April 2014: According to the 2014 Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) Biodiversity Barometer, while 87% of consumers surveyed worldwide want companies to adopt sourcing policies that respect biodiversity, only 27% of the top 100 beauty and personal care companies cite biodiversity on their websites or in their corporate sociability reports. Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias, UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Executive Secretary, highlighted that 84% of respondents place value on personally contributing to biodiversity conservation.

Event: CBD High-level Panel on the Global Assessment of Resources and Latin America Workshop on Resource Mobilization [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the third meeting of the second phase of the High-level Panel on the Global Assessment of Resources for Implementing the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 will be held from 14-15 April 2014. This High-level Panel was constituted in 2013, with 15 expert members from all regions, with a mandate to assess the benefits of meeting the Aichi Biodiversity Targets by examining both the positive impacts on biodiversity directly and the wider benefits to society that result from the investments and policy developments required. The meeting will be followed by the regional workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean on resource mobilization, to be held from 15-17 April. The workshop is organized by the CBD Secretariat in cooperation with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC). Its immediate objective and output is to support the development, in accordance with national circumstances, of individualized and prioritized action plans towards the development of national finance plans.
