Tributes Extended for Angela Cropper [viewed]

13 November 2012: Angela Cropper, former Deputy Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), passed away on 12 November 2012. Throughout Cropper's international career, she also served as the first Executive Secretary to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and as Senior Adviser on Environment and Development at the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Bureau for Development Policy.

Ministers Stress Awareness, Education to Achieve Aichi Targets [viewed]

8 November 2012: A number of ministers identified education as a key driver in achieving the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Aichi Targets for Biodiversity, on the sidelines of the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the CBD in Hyderabad, India. These ministers highlighted biodiversity awareness-raising activities and education as critical tools for producing concrete solutions to biodiversity challenges.

Event: CBD COP 12 [viewed]

The twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 12) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will engage in a mid-term review of the implementation of the Strategic Plan and the Aichi targets. The theme of the meeting will be 'Biodiversity for Sustainable Development.' The Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP MOP 7) will take place immediately before COP 12.

CBD Workshop Builds National Capacity on Rio Conventions Synergies [viewed]

Event: CBD Regional Workshop for African Least Developed Countries on the Fifth National Report [viewed]

The purpose of this workshop is to strengthen capacities of African Least Developed Countries (LDCs) for preparing their fifth national reports to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which are due by 31 March 2014, specifically in assessing the status and trends of biodiversity, reviewing implementation of national biodiversity strategies and action plans, and measuring progress towards the 2020 Aichi targets.
