Event: Round Table on Access to Information, Public Participation and Access to Justice Regarding LMOs/GMOs [viewed]

Jointly organized by the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention) and the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, this round table will address: key issues of concern for Parties and stakeholders with respect to access to information, public participation in decision-making and access to justice regarding living modified organisms (LMOs)/genetically modified organisms (GMOs); challenges in implementing the Aarhus Convention's Almaty Amendment on GMOs, the Lucca Guidelines on GMOs and the Protocol and ways to address them; opportunities for cooperation and capacity building; and priorities for future work.

SCBD/IDLO Expands Initiative to Build Legal Preparedness for the Aichi Biodiversity Targets [viewed]

Event: Commemoration of the Tenth Anniversary of the Entry into Force of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety [viewed]

To mark the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the entry into force of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is inviting Protocol Parties and relevant organizations to hold national activities and events such as media events, conferences, workshops and public exhibitions under the theme, '10 Years of Promoting the Safe Use of Biotechnology'. The Secretariat is making available outreach materials including a promotional video, short video clips and an anniversary edition of the Biosafety Protocol News, which can be downloaded from the CBD website.

CBD Circulates Briefs on Biodiversity for Water, Cities and Slums [viewed]

Event: CBD Expert Meeting on Article 10 of the ABS Protocol [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), this expert meeting will focus on issues related to the global multilateral benefit-sharing mechanism provided for under Article 10 of the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing. Participants will review the synthesis of the online discussions on Article 10, and identify potential areas of common understanding and areas for further examination.

Event: CBD Expert Workshop on Enhancing Biodiversity Data and Observing Systems in Support of the Implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 [viewed]

This workshop will discuss ways in which collection of, access to, and use of biodiversity data and observations could be enhanced to support evidence-based decision-making and planning with a view to achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and corresponding national targets. It is organized by the Secretariat of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the Group on Earth Observations Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO BON). Conclusions from the workshop are expected to be formally reported to the SBSTTA 17 meeting in the following week and will support the consideration of scientific and technical needs related to the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.
