ITPGR Celebrates Tenth Anniversary, Releases List of Benefit-sharing Grantees [viewed]

14 November 2011: On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR), a high-level celebration was hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the ITPGR Secretariat released the list of new projects to be funded under the Treaty's Benefit-sharing Fund, to support farmers and breeders to adapt key crops to climate change.

SBSTTA 15 Considers Indicators for Strategic Plan, Adopts Recommendations to COP [viewed]

11 November 2011: The 15th meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) considered, among other items, a draft set of indicators for monitoring implementation of the CBD Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and measuring progress towards the 2020 Aichi Biodiversity Targets. SBSTTA 15 also adopted eight recommendations to be forwarded to the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the CBD (COP 11).

CBD Releases Draft Study on Impacts of Climate-Related Geo-engineering on Biodiversity [viewed]

11 November 2011: Available for peer-review, a draft study circulated by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) compiles and synthesizes available scientific information on the possible impacts of geo-engineering techniques on biodiversity, including preliminary information on associated social, economic and cultural considerations. Comments are being accepted until 9 December 2011.

Amazon Governments Agree to Cooperate on E-Permitting for CITES [viewed]

30 October 2011: A Regional Meeting on Electronic Information Management and Permitting under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) agreed on the desirability of promoting regional cooperation among CITES and customs authorities on implementing e-permitting going forward, with help from the Secretariats of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) and CITES, and the World Customs Organization.

Event: CBD Dialogue Seminar on Scaling up Finance for Biodiversity [viewed]

Co-hosted by the Governments of Ecuador, Sweden, Norway and India, the intention of this dialogue seminar is to facilitate the further elaboration by the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) of the Strategy for Resource Mobilization, and thereby facilitate implementation of the Strategic Plan and achievement of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. More specifically, the dialogue seminar will: explore opportunities related to an increase in the scale of finance; contribute to building understanding on these issues; and seek to clarify areas of convergence and of divergence. It will include keynote presentations, case studies and small group discussions.
