IOSEA Marine Turtle MoU Gains 33rd Signatory [viewed]

IOSEA20 September 2011: Malaysia has joined the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation and Management of Marine Turtles and their Habitats of the Indian Ocean and South-East Asia (Indian Ocean – South-East Asian Marine Turtle Memorandum of Understanding, or IOSEA Marine Turtle MoU). The MoU takes effect on 1 December 2011.

Event: CBD Workshop on Updating NBSAPs (Central Asia) [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the Government of Turkey, this workshop is part of a series of regional and sub-regional capacity-building workshops aiming to: strengthen national capacities for the development, implementation, review, updating and communication of national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs); help facilitate national implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020; and translate it into national targets and commitments.

Event: CBD Workshop on Capacity-building for PoWPA Implementation (South, East, and South East Asia) [viewed]

This workshop is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the Wildlife Institute of India and the Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA) Friends Consortium, in parallel with the workshop on updating national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs). The objective of the workshop is to build capacity to: create national action plans for implementation of the PoWPA; access funding based on such action plans; and strengthen implementation of the PoWPA on the themes of governance, climate change, sustainable financing and valuation of the costs and benefits of protected areas.

Event: CBD Second Workshop on Updating NBSAPs (South, East, and South-East Asia) [viewed]

The purpose of this follow-up workshop is to address various issues that countries in the region may have encountered or will encounter while updating their national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs), with a focus on target setting, stakeholder engagement and the development of country-specific plans for mobilizing financial resources for the implementation of NBSAPs. It is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the Wildlife Institute of India, in parallel with the workshop on capacity-building for implementation of the CBD Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA).

Event: Seventh European Ramsar Meeting [viewed]

This meeting will address major themes that influence the management and use wetland ecosystems during the coming years. It will aim to identify ways of successful cooperation between different sectors of society, administration and private business. Republic of Korea Designates 17th Ramsar Site [viewed]

22 September 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) has announced that the Republic of Korea has designated its 17th Wetland of International Importance, called Jeungdo Tidal Flat, a Wetland Protected Area that is also part of the Shinan Dadohae UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Event: Capacity-building Workshop on Access and Benefit-sharing [viewed]

This workshop is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the Secretariat of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR), and supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
