18 December 2010: The 46th session of the International Tropical Timber Council (ITTC) and the associated sessions of its four Committees, which convened from 13-18 December 2010, in Yokohama, Japan, concluded with compromises on two outstanding issues: the Collaborative Initiative between the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to conserve tropical forest biodiversity, and financial arrangements for hosting Council sessions outside of ITTO headquarters in Yokohama.

16 December 2010: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited nominations of country-designated experts to participate in the Asia-Pacific regional consultation and capacity-building workshop on REDD+, including relevant biodiversity safeguards, scheduled for 15-18 March 2011, in Singapore City, Singapore.
December 2010: In preparation for the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS), the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited parties to designate a focal point for the Committee and to nominate two representatives from each of the UN regions to serve on its Bureau.
In December 2010, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted by consensus the draft resolution recommended by the Second Committee (65/160) on Implementation of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in Those Countries Experiencing Serious Drought and/or Desertification, Particularly in Africa (UNCCD). It agreed to hold a one-day, high-level meeting, in September 2011, on “addressing desertification, land degradation and drought in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication,” in order to help raise awareness at the highest level, reaffirm the fulfillment of all commitments to the Convention and its 10-year strategic plan and framework (2008-2018), and ensure a higher priority for desertification, land degradation and drought at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). 30 December 2010: The official text of the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has been made available on the UN Treaty Section website in all UN official languages.
18 December 2010: The International Year of Biodiversity was closed in a ceremony in Kanazawa, Japan, on 18 December 2010. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon issued a statement on the occasion, calling for building on the momentum generated in 2010.
December 2010: The moderator's summary of the outcomes of the High-level Round Table on the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR), which convened on 7 December 2010, in Rome, Italy, has been made available online.
Convened by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the National Parks Board of Singapore and the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, this regional consultation and capacity-building workshop will focus on biodiversity and indigenous and local community aspects of REDD+, including relevant safeguards.
