4 April 2013: The 57th, 58th and 59th editions of the Quarterly Report on the Administration of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), covering the period from April to December 2012, have been made available online.
4 April 2013: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention) has reported that the Government of Iceland has designated three new Wetlands of International Importance, bringing the total number of sites for this country to six.
25 March 2013: A briefing for UN Member States on preparations for the tenth session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF10) was held at UN Headquarters in New York. The briefing covered logistical and program information for delegations to the meeting, which will be held 8-19 April 2013, in Istanbul, Turkey.
23 March 2013: Representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), governments and the private sector met at the UNFCCC Technical Workshop on Ecosystem-based Approaches (EbA) for Adaptation to Climate Change. Addressing participants, UNFCCC Deputy Executive Secretary Richard Kinley provided an update on recent developments in the intergovernmental process on climate change, and highlighted relevant aspects relating to the work on adaptation to climate change.
21 March 2013: The Western Hemisphere Migratory Species Initiative (WHMSI) has approved funding for six projects under its Small Grant Fund. The decision, taken during the WHMSI Steering Committee meeting on 28-29 January 2013, follows a call for proposals issued during the fall of 2012.
The 41st meeting of the CMS Standing Committee is scheduled to convene in November 2013. The Standing Committee of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) was established by Resolution 1.1 of the Conference of the Parties (COP). Its functions are to provide policy and administrative guidance between regular meetings of the COP. It consists of representatives of every global region, of the Depositary and, where applicable, of the country that plans to host the next meeting of the COP.
21 March 2013: A number of high-level officials have issued statements in celebration of the first-ever International Day of Forests, including the UN Secretary-General, and the Heads of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF).
21 March 2013: A number of organizations have developed and released outreach and communications materials in support of the first International Day of Forests, an event to be held annually on 21 March. The materials focus on the key messages presented by the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) with regards to: forests and air; water; biodiversity; land; forests and resilience to natural disasters; forests as a key part of the climate change solution; healthy forests, healthy people; and forests are our livelihoods, wealth.
20 March 2013: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention) has reported that the Government of Mali has designated three Ramsar Sites, bringing the total number of sites for this country to four, covering over four million hectares.
15 March 2013: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention) has reported that the Government of the Philippines has designated Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area, a coastal urban wetland and bird sanctuary situated within the metropolis of Metro Manila, as its sixth Wetland of International Importance.
