19 February 2011: Spain has established a EUR300 million fund to target rural poverty and food security, as part of a strategic partnership between the country and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to combat rural poverty and promote sustainable development. The announcement was made at the opening of IFAD's annual Governing Council meeting on 19 February 2011, in Rome, Italy.
18 February 2011: The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) announced the creation of an indigenous peoples' forum under the Fund, following a two-day workshop. The workshop took place at IFAD's headquarters in Rome, Italy, from 17-18 February 2011.
6 December 2010: The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has released the "Rural Poverty Report 2011," which provides updated estimates on the number of rural poor people in developing countries and rural poverty rates.
Agriculture and Rural Development Day (ARDD) will convene in conjunction with the Cancun Climate Change Conference. The day will be hosted by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development, the CGIAR Challenge Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food of Mexico.
28 May 2010: The fourth Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) was held in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on 25-26 May 2010. The Assembly was preceded by a Civil Society Forum and a GEF Council meeting, which took place at the same venue.
The eleventh Special Session of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GCSS-11/GMEF) convened from 24-26 February 2010, in Bali, Indonesia.
4 March 2010: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) International Technical Conference on Agricultural Biotechnologies in Developing Countries took place in Guadalajara, Mexico, from 1-4 March 2010, and was co-sponsored by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the Government of Mexico and a number of other international partners.
