IPBES-2 Adopts the Antalya Consensus, Appoints First Executive Secretary [viewed]

ipbes214 December 2013: The second session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES-2) concluded with the adoption of the Antalya Consensus, a set of decisions detailing the Platform's work programme, operating procedures and relationship with the UN. The Plenary also announced the appointment of Anne Larigauderie as the first IPBES Executive Secretary.

Central African Biodiversity Working Group Discusses CBD and IPBES-Related Issues [viewed]

IPBES-2 Working Documents Include Fast Track Thematic Assessments [viewed]

ipbesNovember 2013: The interim Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has released pre-sessional working documents in advance of the second meeting of the Plenary (IPBES-2). The documents are inclusive of, inter alia, a series of fast track scoping exercises, a draft work programme, communication strategy and stakeholder engagement strategy, draft procedures for Platform deliverables and guidance on strategic partnerships.

UNDESA, UNDP Brief Presents Options for Forests and the SDGs [viewed]

Event: Panel Discussion in Advance of the Second Plenary Session of the IPBES [viewed]

Sponsored by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), this event will seek to increase awareness about the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and to bring participants up-to-date on the issues that will be addressed in the Second IPBES Plenary. Presentations will include an overview of the intersessional activities that have taken place in 2013, and some of the key issues that will be addressed in the Second Plenary, including the Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and some of the thematic and methodological assessments that have been proposed as priorities for the IPBES Work Programme 2014-2018.

Event: IPBES Asia-Pacific Regional Consultation Meeting [viewed]

The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Asia-Pacific consultation meeting is organized by the Malaysia Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and Office of the Science Advisor, and supported by the Norwegian Environment Agency, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE)-the Government of Malaysia, and the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC). Meeting objectives are to provide an opportunity to discuss and consider regional perspectives for the IPBES Work Programme 2014-2018 as well as other issues of the IPBES-2 agenda, including procedures and approaches for working with different knowledge systems and the IPBES conceptual framework.

Global Snow Leopard Forum Adopts Declaration, International Day [viewed]

global-snow-leopard23 October 2013: The Global Snow Leopard Conservation Forum closed with the President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, calling on the twelve range States to intensify snow leopard conservation efforts. The forum saw the adoption of a declaration as well as a day to recognize snow leopard conservation.
