Pacific Mangroves Initiative Works Towards Declaration at SIDS Conference [viewed]

iucn-sprep1 July 2014: The Pacific Mangroves Initiative has developed a mangroves declaration, which is expected to be signed by Environment Ministers from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu at the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The declaration is expected to emphasize mangroves as key coastal ecosystems that need conservation and to formalize regional cooperation on their conservation and sustainable use.

Event: Third Session of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Plenary [viewed]

The third session of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) plenary will review progress made on the adopted IPBES work programme for 2014 – 2018, including the related budget and institutional arrangements for its implementation. In addition, the third session of the IPBES plenary will select the members of the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel (MEP) based on the nominations received from governments. The event will be preceded by consultations and a stakeholder day on 10-11 January.

Initiative in East Africa Launched to Address Illegal Logging and Timber Trade [viewed]
