EAS Congress Discusses Building a Blue Economy, Sea Governance [viewed]

July 2012: The 2012 East Asian Seas Congress took place in Changwon City, Republic of Korea, with a focus on building a "blue economy" in the region. It addressed, in particular, progress in the governance of regional/sub-regional seas within the framework of the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA). The Congress included the Fourth Ministerial Forum, an Exhibition, an East Asian Seas Partnership Council Meeting, and a PEMSEA Network of Local Governments Forum.

2 August 2012: The UN Indigenous Peoples Partnership (UNIPP) has made available its five-year program framework, titled “United Nations Indigenous Peoples Partnership: Strategic Framework 2011-2015," which outlines UNIPP's thematic areas of focus for the realization of indigenous peoples' rights. It has also published a brochure describing the genesis, governance and guiding principles of UNIPP and its Multi-Partner Trust Fund.

GEF SGP Presents Results of Bird Conservation in Zambia [viewed]

2 July 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) presented the results of a project to expand protected areas for migrating bird species in Zambia. GEF reports that as a result of the Mutulanganga Important Bird Areas (IBA) Conservation and Community Eco-Tourism Initiatives project, the area of the IBA has more than doubled to 62,000 hectares, providing an additional 35,000 hectares of undisturbed natural habitat for migrating birds and other species in the region.
