IPBES Offers Draft Guidance on Regional and Sub-Regional Assessments [viewed]

ipbes19 June 2014: The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has released the first draft of a guidance document addressing the scoping of IPBES deliverable 2b, on regional and sub-regional assessments. The draft guidance is being circulated to member States and observers for comments to assist the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel (MEP) and Bureau with its finalization.

Event: 14th Congo Basin Forests Partnership (CBFP) Anchor Workshop [viewed]

This meeting will convene representatives and partners from the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) in order to discuss issues related to REDD+ in the region, the revised convergence plan of Commission des Forets d'Afrique Centrale (COMIFAC), ways and means to address drivers of deforestation, and the loss of forest biodiversity.

Event: Equator Prize Award Ceremony [viewed]

The Equator Prize Initiative will present awards to the 2014 Prize winners at a high-level ceremony at Lincoln Center in New York, US, on 22 September 2014, as a kick-off to the UN Secretary-General's Climate Summit. The Prize is awarded biannually to recognize and advance local sustainable development solutions for people, nature and resilient communities. The event will be hosted by the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

World Oceans Day Celebrated Globally [viewed]

World Oceans Day8 June 2014: The UN commemorated World Oceans Day on 8 June 2014, under the theme, 'Together we have the power to protect the ocean!' The Day also lent special attention to the designation of 2014 as the International Year of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and fell on the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

WED 2014 Spotlights SIDS [viewed]

worlddayunep5 June 2014: This year's World Environment Day (WED), hosted by Barbados and celebrated under the banner ‘Raise your Voice, Not the Sea Level', focused on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and the risks and opportunities they face, particularly with respect to climate change. The Day lent an additional focus to the 2014 International Year of SIDS, as well as the Third International Conference on the Small Island Developing States, which will convene in Samoa from 1-4 September 2014.

wavesMay 2014: The Wealth Accounting and the Valuation of Ecosystem Services (WAVES) Partnership has released its ‘Annual Report 2014,' which documents the Partnership's methodological and institutional progress on natural capital accounting (NCA) for integrating natural resources into development planning. WAVES has also released country reports for five of its eight core implementing countries: Botswana, Colombia, Costa Rica, Madagascar, and the Philippines.
