Event: CBD High-level Panel on the Global Assessment of Resources and Latin America Workshop on Resource Mobilization [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the third meeting of the second phase of the High-level Panel on the Global Assessment of Resources for Implementing the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 will be held from 14-15 April 2014. This High-level Panel was constituted in 2013, with 15 expert members from all regions, with a mandate to assess the benefits of meeting the Aichi Biodiversity Targets by examining both the positive impacts on biodiversity directly and the wider benefits to society that result from the investments and policy developments required. The meeting will be followed by the regional workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean on resource mobilization, to be held from 15-17 April. The workshop is organized by the CBD Secretariat in cooperation with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC). Its immediate objective and output is to support the development, in accordance with national circumstances, of individualized and prioritized action plans towards the development of national finance plans.

IPBES Issues Second Call for Nominations of Experts [viewed]

ipbes3 April 2014: In a letter dated 2 April 2013, the Chair of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) issued an invitation to governments and stakeholders to nominate experts to explore a set of regional and sub-regional assessments, and a thematic assessment of land degradation and restoration.

GEF-UNDP Project Conserves Marine Biodiversity, Supports Sustainable Livelihoods in Malaysia [viewed]

GEF UNDP27 March 2014: Tioman Island, Malaysia, has adopted a "reef etiquette" philosophy following a six-year project financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the UN Development Programme (UNDP). The project expanded Malaysia's marine park system by 6,400 hectares and addressed illegal fishing and relationships between local communities and conservation authorities.

UNDP Calls for Inputs on Draft Social and Environmental Standards [viewed]

UNDP3 March 2014: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has announced an invitation to provide comments on its draft Social and Environmental Standards (SESs), which underpin UNDP's commitment to mainstreaming social and environmental sustainability in its programmes and projects. The Standards aim to: strengthen UNDP's social and environmental outcomes; minimize and manage adverse impacts when avoidance is not possible; and strengthen capacities for managing social and environmental risks.

Partnership for Action on a Green Economy Holds Inaugural Meeting [viewed]

Over 30 ministers and high-level officials from more than two dozen countries met with UN officials, international experts, representatives from the business community and civil society.

Event: IPBES Third Full MEP and Bureau Meeting [viewed]

The third full Multidisciplinary Expert Panel (MEP) and Bureau meeting of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) will be held with support from Germany. The objective of this meeting is to implement Decisions IPBES-2/1 to IPBES-2/9, as requested by the IPBES Plenary at its second session.
