The 2012 annual meeting of the Inter-Agency Support Group on Indigenous Peoples' Issues will address, among other issues, the Group's responses to current and previous recommendations of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues to the Group and the UN system; opportunities for inter-agency collaboration and possible strategic directions; and implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, including through the UN Development Group and its guidelines on programming at the country level on indigenous issues.

20 June 2012: Tião Viana, Governor of Acre State, Brazil, hosted Acre Day at the Botanical Garden in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the sidelines of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), to officially launch the state policy for the Acre and Madeira Rivers basin. The policy already has resulted in the planting of more than 200,000 trees and the provision of water resources for more than 2,300 people in the region, according to the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

The International Law Programme of the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) has opened a new series of its e-Courses on International Environmental Law, scheduled from 7 February-3 April 2011. The aim of the e-courses is to provide a broad introduction to the main topics under international environmental law, including its fundamental principles, law-making processes, main actors, implementation and compliance procedures, and negotiations of Multilateral Environmental Agreements based on the current legal challenges in international environmental law. The series comprises four e-courses as follows: International Environmental Law (7-20 February); International Environmental Governance (21 February-6 March); Techniques and Procedures in International Environmental Law (7-20 March); and International Environmental Negotiations (21 March-3 April).

Held from 5-9 October 2009, in Nairobi, Kenya, the second Ad Hoc Intergovernmental and Multi-stakeholder Meeting on an Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES-II) discussed the findings of a gap analysis on the existing science-policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services, options to strengthen such interface, and possible functions and governance structures of an intergovernmental science-policy platform.
