Event: CBD Workshop on the Inter-Linkages between Human Health and Biodiversity in Africa [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the WHO regional office for Africa, this regional capacity-building workshop will provide a forum for parties and experts from the health and biodiversity sectors to: discuss the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, in particular as it relates to health issues; discuss regional best practices in terms of incorporating biodiversity and health considerations in national and regional biodiversity conservation programmes; strengthen capacity and identify further capacity needs for the implementation of the Strategic Plan; identify possible joint activities to achieve health and biodiversity co-benefits for consideration in national biodiversity strategies and action plans; and promote trans-boundary/regional cooperation and support networks on health and biodiversity issues and strategies.

Event: Annual Meeting of the Inter-Agency Support Group on Indigenous Peoples' Issues [viewed]

The 2012 annual meeting of the Inter-Agency Support Group on Indigenous Peoples' Issues will address, among other issues, the Group's responses to current and previous recommendations of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues to the Group and the UN system; opportunities for inter-agency collaboration and possible strategic directions; and implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, including through the UN Development Group and its guidelines on programming at the country level on indigenous issues.
