Event: CBD Workshop on the Inter-Linkages between Human Health and Biodiversity in Africa [viewed]
Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the WHO regional office for Africa, this regional capacity-building workshop will provide a forum for parties and experts from the health and biodiversity sectors to: discuss the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, in particular as it relates to health issues; discuss regional best practices in terms of incorporating biodiversity and health considerations in national and regional biodiversity conservation programmes; strengthen capacity and identify further capacity needs for the implementation of the Strategic Plan; identify possible joint activities to achieve health and biodiversity co-benefits for consideration in national biodiversity strategies and action plans; and promote trans-boundary/regional cooperation and support networks on health and biodiversity issues and strategies.
15 June 2012: On the third day of the Third Meeting of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom III) for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, over 30 side events took place, addressing topics such as green economy, sustainable transport and biodiversity.
June 2012: The World Health Organization (WHO) has published a discussion paper on the linkages between health and biodiversity, climate change and desertification, the representation of health in the three Rio Conventions, and the opportunities for more integrated and effective policy.
April 2012: The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Secretariat for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) recently convened a workshop on the interlinkages between human health and biodiversity. 
1 March 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) has released Ramsar Technical Report No. 6, titled "Healthy wetlands, healthy people: a review of wetlands and human health interactions." The report was published jointly with the World Health Organization (WHO).
December 2011: The latest update of the BiotechNews Newsletter of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) reports on an e-mail conference on strengthening partnerships in agricultural biotechnologies for the benefit of smallholders in developing countries. It also highlights an article on agricultural biotechnologies in developing countries and their possible contribution to food security.
20 May 2011: The 64th Session of the World Health Organization's (WHO) World Health Assembly, meeting from 16-24 May 2011 in Geneva, Switzerland, adopted a framework on pandemic influenza preparedness covering the sharing of influenza viruses and access to vaccines and other benefits.
