Event: CBD Workshop for North Africa and Middle East on Updating NBSAPs [viewed]

This regional workshop is jointly organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment (CAMRE) of the League of Arab States, and the Regional Office for West Asia (ROWA) of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), with the financial support of the Japan Biodiversity Fund. Its purpose is to: strengthen national capacities for the development, implementation, reviewing, updating and communication of national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs); help facilitate national implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020; and translate the post-2010 strategic plan into national targets and commitments. The workshop will include a session on further developing a regional strategy on invasive alien species, to be facilitated by the Global Invasive Species Programme.

Event: Zero Meeting of Possible UNECE/FAO Working Party on Forest Policy and Management [viewed]

Participants at this meeting will consider the possible establishment of a joint Working Party on Forest Policy and Management as a subsidiary body under the Timber Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the European Forestry Commission of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Event: Joint Session of the UNECE Timber Committee and the FAO European Forestry Commission [viewed]

The Action Plan on the Role of the Forest Sector in a Green Economy is intended to provide policymakers with ideas for ways and means of improving and promoting the forest sector's contribution to a green economy. It could be presented to UNCSD as a practical contribution to greener economies in the ECE region.

UNECE, FAO to Explore the Role of Forests in the Green Economy, Call for Comments on Action Plan [viewed]

16 November 2010: The chair of the Timber Committee of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Linda Langner, and the chair of the European Forestry Commission under the aegis of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Peter Blomback, reported that at a meeting on 15 October 2010, the joint Bureaux of the two bodies decided that the theme of their joint session scheduled for October 2011 will be “Forests in a Green Economy.”
