Event: CBD Workshop for Asia and the Pacific on Resource Mobilization [viewed]

This workshop is one of a series of regional workshops to support parties in the establishment of robust baselines and reporting frameworks, and the preparation of national financial plans for biodiversity. Its emphasis will be on exchange of national experiences and active learning, and the step-by-step development of individualized and prioritized action plans towards the development of national finance plans. It is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).

UNEP, SANDEE and ESCAP Convene Environmental Accounting Workshop [viewed]

UNEP10 October 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE) and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with the Poverty-Environment Initiative (PEI) and others, convened the 'Valuing and Accounting for the Environment in the Asia Region' workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, from 8-10 October. The conference included technical discussions on green accounting systems and valuing natural capital.

ESCAP Publishes Asia-Pacific Statistical Yearbook [viewed]

6 November 2012: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) has published its “Statistical Yearbook for Asia and the Pacific 2012.”  The Yearbook features country profiles with selected statistical indicators, tables and charts for the 58 regional and associate members of ESCAP. It highlights Asia-Pacific gains in economic growth, poverty reduction and child survival while also noting wide development gaps, particularly in gender equality and health care.

Event: World Cities Summit 2010: Liveable and Sustainable Cities for the Future [viewed]

This three-day event will focus on the challenges related to urban planning, infrastructure financing, public housing, waste management, urban biodiversity and climate change. Participants will discuss how to mitigate risks and build inclusive and harmonious cities. Partners of the Summit include the Asian Development Bank (ADB), UN-Habitat, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

UNEP-SPONSORED MEETING ADDRESSES SCIENCE-POLICY INTERFACE ON BIODIVERSITY AND ECOSYSTEM SERVICES [viewed]

Held from 5-9 October 2009, in Nairobi, Kenya, the second Ad Hoc Intergovernmental and Multi-stakeholder Meeting on an Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES-II) discussed the findings of a gap analysis on the existing science-policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services, options to strengthen such interface, and possible functions and governance structures of an intergovernmental science-policy platform.
