Kiribati, US Sign Agreement on Phoenix Ocean Arc at World Parks Congress [viewed]

us-kiribati14 November 2014: Kiribati President Anote Tong and US Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell signed a cooperative arrangement to conserve Kiribati's Phoenix Islands Protected Area (PIPA) and the US' Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument (PRIMNM), which collectively make up the Phoenix Ocean Arc. Kiribati and the US signed the agreement at the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) World Parks Congress, which is taking place from 12-19 November in Sydney, Australia.

iccwc13 November 2014: The International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC) has released the 'Guidelines on Methods and Procedures for Ivory Sampling and Laboratory Analysis' in support of the deployment of forensic technology to combat elephant poaching. The UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) took the lead in developing the Guidelines with expert support.

UNCCD, Ramsar Commit to Land Degradation Neutrality [viewed]

UNDCC - Ramsar Convention14 November 2014: During the "Planet Plenary" at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Parks Congress, which is taking place in Sydney, Australia, Monique Barbut, Executive Secretary, UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), and Christopher Briggs, Secretary General, Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, announced a public commitment "to create a sustainable and resilient future for our children by stopping and reversing land degradation."
