Morocco Recognizes CGIAR Consortium as an International Organization [viewed]

CGIAR22 May 2014: Morocco's Minister of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries, M Aziz Akhannouch, signed an agreement that recognizes the CGIAR Consortium as an International Organization. Morocco, which joined the CGIAR Consortium in 2002, hosts five CGIAR Research Programs through its Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA).

WAVES Country and Annual Reports Released [viewed]

wavesMay 2014: The Wealth Accounting and the Valuation of Ecosystem Services (WAVES) Partnership has released its ‘Annual Report 2014,' which documents the Partnership's methodological and institutional progress on natural capital accounting (NCA) for integrating natural resources into development planning. WAVES has also released country reports for five of its eight core implementing countries: Botswana, Colombia, Costa Rica, Madagascar, and the Philippines.

Australia, Indonesia and Timor-Leste Endorse Marine Action Programme [viewed]

GEF15 May 2014: Ministers from Timor-Leste and Indonesia and the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia endorsed a regional Strategic Action Programme to promote the restoration, conservation and management of coastal and marine ecosystems in the Arafura and Timor Seas, an area that links the Indian and Pacific Oceans and is known as the ATS region. The officials endorsed the Programme at the World Coral Reef Conference 2014, which took place from 14-17 May in Manadao, Indonesia.

Bioversity International Supports the Sustainable Use of Cocoa Biodiversity [viewed]

Event: Workshop on Cooperation and Coordination among the Biodiversity-Related Conventions Prior to WGRI-5 [viewed]

The UN Environment Programme-World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and the UNEP Division on Environmental Law and Conventions are hosting a workshop prior to the fifth meeting of the Convention on Biological Diversity's (CBD) Working Group on Review of Implementation (WGRI-5). Titled 'Improving coordination and cooperation in the implementation of the biodiversity-related conventions at national and regional levels,' the workshop will encourage participants to share and discuss the preliminary findings from a questionnaire on cooperation among the six biodiversity-related multilateral environment agreements (MEAs) at the national level, and to engage in a discussion and analysis of the trends highlighted by each of the five thematic sections of the questionnaire.
