Proposed Reform of EU Common Fisheries Policy Unveiled [viewed]

13 July 2011: The European Commission has unveiled its proposals for reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), seeking to secure fish stocks and fishermen's livelihood for the future while putting an end to overfishing and depletion of fish stocks. The reform is expected to lead to a decentralized approach to science-based fisheries management by region and sea basin, and better governance standards in the EU and at the international level through sustainable fisheries agreements.

Caribbean Wetlands Initiative Discusses Ramsar Convention Implementation [viewed]

13 July 2011: The second meeting of the Caribbean Wetlands Initiative discussed the region's implementation of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention), and resulted in agreement on activities and material to be presented and disseminated during the upcoming Pan-American meeting and the 11th meeting of the contracting parties (COP 11) to the Ramsar Convention.

Ramsar Centre for Eastern Africa Holds First Planning Meeting [viewed]

July 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) has reported that the first plannning meeting of the Ramsar Centre for Eastern Africa (RAMCEA) brought together partner States to discuss the operationalization of the Centre. The meeting aimed to: agree on the governance and structure of, and the Strategic Framework for, the RAMCEA; assess the capacity gaps of the different contracting parties; and inform partner States about the RAMCEA, tools for implementing the Ramsar Convention, and national and regional linkages.
