mab-unesco22 May 2013: The Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and partners have released a book, titled 'Best Practices of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves,' which compiles the presentations of the Island Biosphere Reserves that attended the 2nd meeting of the World Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves: Sustainable Development and Climate Change, held in Jeju, Republic of Korea, in September 2012.

CITES Receives National Ivory Action Plans and Recommends Suspension of Trade with Guinea [viewed]

CITES16 May 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) announced that it has received National Ivory Action Plans from China, Kenya, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Uganda, Tanzania and Viet Nam, the first group of countries identified as primary source, transit and import countries affected by illegal trade in ivory.

Oman Joins Ramsar, Designates Nature Reserve [viewed]

= oman-flag2 May 2013: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention) has reported that the Government of Oman has acceded to the Convention, becoming its 167th contracting party. The wetland Qurm Nature Reserve was designated as its first Ramsar site.
