The theme for this conference is "The Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus: Solutions for the Green Economy." This high-level, invitation-only conference is organized by the German Federal Government in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). It will seek to contribute to the run-up to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), scheduled for June 2012. This Symposium is organized by the GEO Secretariat and GEO Japan, with the support of Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Its theme is “Towards the Establishment of Data Sharing and Data Integration in the Asia-Pacific Region,” and its objective is to promote the exchange of data and information through the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) and to find solutions for achieving societal benefits through GEOSS in the Asia-Pacific region. Technical sessions will be held on the following topics: Asian Water Cycle Initiative (AWCI); Asia-Pacific Biodiversity Observation Network (AP-BON); Forest Carbon Tracking (FCT); and Ocean Observation and Climate.
