12 September 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has published its Monthly Bulletin of Activities for June 2011, which includes reports on, among others, the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing (ABS), and regional workshops on updating national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs).
9 September 2011: The Tenth Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) Dialogue, which convened from 7-8 September 2011, in The Hague, the Netherlands, focused on common approaches to dealing with the challenges of food security and climate change.
7 September 2011: Representatives of past and future Presidencies of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) have issued a call for "urgent action on the implementation of the successful Nagoya Outcomes."
18 August 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) seeking to contribute to the implementation of the CBD Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.
A signing ceremony for the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) will take place on the margins of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly.
This briefing is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in collaboration with the Secretariat of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) and in partnership with Japan as President of the 10th Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the CBD. It will take place on the margins of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly.
10 August 2011: In preparation of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), the UN Secretary-General has circulated a background note on the implementation of UN environmental conventions, including the reports submitted by the Secretariats of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
8 August 2011: The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) has named Rober Nasi as the Director of the CGIAR Research Program No. 6: Forests, Trees and Agroforestry: Livelihoods, Landscapes and Governance.
1 August 2011: Highlighting that the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) stands apart as the only environmental convention "at the heart of human well-being," Jayanthi Natarajan, Minister of Environment and Forests of India, host of the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11), identified five key issues for COP 11's High-level Segment.
2 August 2011: In preparation for the second meeting of the Open-ended Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing (ICNP-2), the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited submission of views and information on: awareness-raising; the financial mechanism, resource mobilization, and the need for and modalities for a global multilateral benefit-sharing mechanism; and compliance, capacity building and development.
