Bioversity International Releases February Issue of Newsletter for Europe [viewed]

February 2011: Bioversity International has released the February issue of its "Newsletter for Europe." The newsletter describes several meetings and projects being undertaken or recently completed related to agriculture, biodiversity and genetic resources, including the meeting of the Steering Committee for the European Cooperative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR), held from 14-16 December 2010, in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Event: Climate Change Legal Negotiations: Implications for Forest Governance, Equity and Livelihoods [viewed]

The UN University (UNU) is organizing this event focused on legal negotiations in climate change. During the event, a panel will discuss mechanisms for access and benefit sharing related to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), including lessons for climate change legal negotiations from access and benefit sharing agreements. The panel will also discuss the implementation of global environmental agreements within local realities and highlight experiences of communities from different tropical regions in addressing the challenge of ensuring development objectives in an equitable and just manner.

CBD Secretariat Invites ILC Nominations for Advisory Selection Committee of Voluntary Trust Fund, Calls for Pledges [viewed]

4 March 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited indigenous and local communities (ILCs) to nominate representatives for the Advisory Selection Committee of the Voluntary Trust Fund for the participation of ILC representatives in the work of the Convention. In addition, the Secretariat has called for contributions to the Voluntary Fund.

Six Countries Sign ABS Protocol in First Month [viewed]

28 February 2011: Mexico and Rwanda joined four other countries in signing the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in the first month of opening for signature.
