Coral Triangle InitiativeDecember 2014: Representatives at the Tenth Senior Officials Meeting (SOM-10) of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) endorsed the Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) Working Group's Regional and National Roadmaps for 2014-2015, agreed on cooperation agreements with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the Southeast Asia Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) and agreed on organizational matters.

UNECE Region Adopts Framework to Reduce Air Pollution from Agriculture [viewed]

UNECE12 December 2014: Parties to the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP) have adopted an ‘Ammonia Framework Code' to help countries reduce ammonia emissions from agriculture, which threaten human health, causing cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Atmospheric ammonia, a major contributor to air pollution, also leads to acidification and excessive nutrient loading, resulting in biodiversity loss in many of the most vulnerable ecosystems.

WCPFC Adopts Conservation and Management Measures on Tuna, Sharks [viewed]

wcpfc10 December 2014: The 11th regular session of the Western Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) agreed on a number of Conservation and Management Measures (CMMs), including actions to: modify measures for bigeye, yellowfin and skipjack tuna; mitigate impacts of fishing on sharks; and establish a harvesting strategy for key fisheries and stocks in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean.

Event: Tenure and Fishing Rights 2015 (User Rights) [viewed]

This global conference on tenure and fishing rights will focus on rights-based approaches for fisheries. It aims to share experiences and information on the application of rights-based approaches to responsible fisheries and social development, particularly in areas where tenure governance is weak. Participants will discuss concepts of tenure and users rights to support fisheries stakeholders and policymakers in designing and implementing arrangements for efficient, equitable and sustainable resource utilization and development. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) is hosting the conference with the Government of Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Event: Global Conference on Inland Fisheries, Freshwater, Fish and the Future [viewed]

This global conference will focus on ‘Freshwater Fish and the Future: Cross-Sectoral Approaches to Sustain Livelihoods, Food Security and Aquatic Resources'. The conference aims to raise the profile of inland fisheries to better reflect their role in blue growth and their incorporation in agricultural, industrial, recreational and urban land use and water resource planning. The conference will address four themes: biological assessment; economic and social assessment; drivers and synergies; and policy and governance. The meeting is expected to result in recommendations for inland fisheries policy statements.

COP 20 Panel Discusses Land-Based Adaptation Indicator [viewed]

limacop2011 December 2014: Participants focused on the linkages between adaptation and sustainable land and ecosystem management as well as monitoring progress in these areas at an event organized by the Government of China and supported by the Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The side event, titled 'Building a Common Indicator on Land-Based Adaptation for Reporting on the Rio Conventions,' was co-convened with the Governments of Costa Rica, France, Morocco, Myanmar, Panama and Senegal on the sidelines of the Lima Climate Change Conference.

International Mountain Day Celebrates Family Farming [viewed]

The Day, which focused on the contributions of mountain farming families to livelihoods, was also one of the last events celebrating the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF).
