Pavilion Showcases UN's Work on "Living Ocean and Coast" at Expo 2012 [viewed]

12 May 2012: The UN Pavilion has opened at the International Exposition 2012 (Expo 2012) in Yeosu, Republic of Korea, under the theme "Oceans and Coasts: Connecting Our Lives, Ensuring Our Future—The Choice is Yours." The Expo is the first international exposition focusing on ocean, coasts and islands in international recognition of their role, and is organized around the overall theme "The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities."

CBD WGRI 4 Forwards Eight Recommendations to COP 11, Message to UNCSD [viewed]

13 May 2012: The fourth meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on the Review of Implementation (WGRI 4) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which met in Montreal, Canada, from 7-11 May 2012, adopted eight recommendations that will be submitted to the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the CBD, including a message to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

PCLG Newsletter and Bulletin Highlight Poverty and Biodiversity Conservation [viewed]

April 2012: The Poverty and Conservation Learning Group (PCLG) has published the latest issues of its biodiversity and society bulletin, called “Biosoc,” and its monthly newsletter. The PCLG is a multi-stakeholder forum, coordinated by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), for promoting dialogue and fostering learning on the links between biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction.

UNRISD Paper Examines Sustainable Development through Policy Integration in Latin America [viewed]

May 2012: The UN Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) has published a paper on "Sustainable Development through Policy Integration in Latin America," as part of the Occasional Paper series for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The paper examines three projects, two in Brazil and one in Ecuador, to understand how social and political actors govern natural resource use to promote ecosystem protection, biodiversity, renewable energy use and poverty reduction.

UNEP WCMC Issues Report on Reporting Synergies among Biodiversity Conventions [viewed]

1 May 2012: The UN Environment Programme-World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), with support from Finland's Ministry of Environment, has released a report on synergies in national reporting in the biodiversity-related multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs). The report offers guidance to the governing bodies of biodiversity-related MEAs, as well as the UNEP Governing Council, the international environmental governance (IEG) reform process and MEA-related processes.
