The inaugural International Water Summit will be hosted by Masdar and held alongside the 2013 World Future Energy Summit (WFES) and the Abu Dhabi International Renewable Energy Conference (ADIREC). The aim of the International Water Summit is to provide an opportunity for participants to network with global politicians, experts from the international water community and leaders from the public and private sectors, and collaborate in the development of solutions for some of the world's most water-scarce regions. The Summit is part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).

Event: Bhutan+10: Gender and Sustainable Mountain Development in a Changing World [viewed]

This conference is organized by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, (ICIMOD) and aims to bring together mountain women and men, researchers, policy makers, and development practitioners from the Hindu Kush-Himalayas region and around the world for a comprehensive update, stock-taking, and new agenda setting after the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20). The conference will include plenary sessions, panels, and discussions on the following six themes: Climate Change: Gender and Adaptation; Livelihoods: Inclusive Sustainable Development; Governance: Gender-Responsive Policies and Plural Institutions; Gender-Positive Change: Successes, Challenges, and Agenda-Setting for Gender ‘Mainstreaming'; Ecosystems: Benefit Sharing, Access, and Equity in Diverse Environments and Common Property Regimes; and Water: Equitable Access, Control, and Benefits of Water Resources.

Intergovernmental Meeting on the GEO-5 SPM Reviews Report [viewed]

Event: Sixth European Organic Congress [viewed]

Under the theme “Smart change - towards a sustainable Common Agricultural Policy (CAP),” this Congress aims to address the policy change needed to come to a "greener, smarter, fairer European CAP" for the future, improve the availability of sustainably produced food for consumers and to ensure the credibility of certification for sustainable farm systems. Participants will discuss, among other things: organic regulation and credibility in sustainable food production; strategic steps ahead for the CAP after 2013; paving the way to sustainable food supply through rural development programmes; and promoting organic consumption through promotional measures and green public procurement.

WEF Addresses Energy Poverty, Rio+20 [viewed]

30 January 2012: The World Economic Forum (WEF) held its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, from 25-29 January 2012, gathering industry, business, government and other world leaders to discuss current issues. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon participated in two panels, on ending energy poverty and on the perspectives for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), warning “we cannot build a green economy on the backs of the poorest and most vulnerable people.”

GSP Report Calls for Making Social and Environmental Costs Transparent [viewed]

30 January 2012: The UN Secretary-General's High-level Panel on Global Sustainability (GSP) has released its final report, titled “Resilient People, Resilient Planet: A Future Worth Choosing.” The report's 56 recommendations seek to mainstream sustainable development into economic policy, by integrating social and environmental costs into pricing and measuring of economic activities.

Conference Addresses Role of Forests, Markets in Green Economy [viewed]
