16 November 2010: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released the “OECD Environmental Performance Reviews: Japan 2010,” saying that Japan should do more to fight climate change and protect biodiversity.
October 2010: Launched as Technical Series No. 55, a report from the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) titled “Linking Biodiversity Conservation and Poverty Alleviation: A State of Knowledge Review” contains reviews presented to the symposium “Linking Biodiversity Conservation and Poverty Reduction: What, Why and How?” held in April 2010, in London, UK.
The Congress intends to: review the socioeconomic, environmental and political impacts of biodiversity conservation; identify best strategies for the effective biodiversity conservation and management for livelihood improvement; address the causes and consequences of climate change on living resources on earth; identify research gaps and conceptualize collaborative research undertakings on biodiversity and climate change; evolve suitable strategies to combat global warming and climate change; bring the international scientific community together to initiate immediate net work action to conserve the flora and fauna in biodiversity hotspots; and link potential donors, research experts and educators for the conduct of future research and implementation of programs on biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
12 November 2010: Leaders of the Group of Twenty (G20) met in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on 11-12 November 2010 and adopted: a Leaders' Declaration; the Seoul Action Plan including a commitment to the Seoul Development Consensus for Shared Growth; and concrete measures summarized in a Multi-Year Action Plan on Development, focusing particularly on the development of infrastructure in developing countries.
12 November 2010: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has called for nominations of experts to participate in the meeting of the ad hoc technical expert group (AHTEG) on addressing the risks associated with the introduction of invasive alien species (IAS) as pets, aquarium and terrarium species, live bait and live food.
11 November 2010: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has circulated a report containing highlights of global celebrations of the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) in September 2010.
10 November 2010: The European Commission has launched a public consultation, open to EU and partner countries, on the future of EU development policy, which aims to "collect views" on advancing progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and beyond, in the face of economic, food and environmental crises.
This workshop has been initiated by the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment (CAMRE) of the League of Arab States and is co-organized by the UNEP Regional Office for West Asia and the CBD Secretariat. Funding institutions and development agencies active in the Arab region are expected to attend, with a view to considering and elaborating an Arab Programme on Biodiversity and Finance up to 2020. The workshop results will be presented to environment ministers at the annual meeting of CAMRE.
