UNEP-WCMC Launches Carbon and Co-benefits Website [viewed]

14 May 2010: The UN Environment Programme-World Conservation Monitoring Center (UNEP-WCMC), with support from the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), has launched a new website highlighting the potential for actions on maintaining natural carbon stocks to generate co-benefits, i.e. that are additional to climate change mitigation effects.

Event: Ecohealth 2010: The Third Biennial Conference of the International Association for Ecology and Health (IAEH) [viewed]

This conference will bring together academic institutions, government bodies and civil society groups to discuss jointly the major challenges facing people, wildlife and ecosystems internationally in 2010 and the future. Placing major emphasis on the perspectives of peoples most vulnerable to the harms of ecosystem destruction, including indigenous peoples, women, and young people, the three main themes for the conference are: urban ecohealth; biodiversity and ecohealth; and sustainability and future priorities for ecohealth.

People's World Conference on Climate Change Adopts Declaration [viewed]

23 April 2010:The People's World Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth convened in Cochabamba, Bolivia, from 19-22 April 2010. An initiative of Bolivian President Evo Morales, the Conference provided a forum to discuss the structural and systemic causes of climate change and propose substantive measures that facilitate the well-being of mankind in harmony with nature.

Event: Geneva Trade and Biodiversity Day [viewed]

This event is co-organized by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). It will focus on the intersection between trade and biodiversity policy in the promotion of sustainable development. Event: MAB-Pro-Natura Congo Basin Biosphere Bio-Carbon Forum and Training Seminar [viewed]

This UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seminar will train biosphere reserve managers and MAB partners in bio-carbon project design and management. It will bring together regional stakeholders to discuss concrete steps toward strengthening the biosphere reserve network in Central Africa and using Congo Basin biosphere reserves as pilot sites to combat deforestation, protect biodiversity, and promote sustainable development through bio-carbon modalities.
