12 April 2013: At its eighth session, the Committee on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM 8) approved two revised International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs) on pest risk analysis for quarantine pests and on the regulation of wood packaging material. The Committee also considered the way forward on developing ISPMs on sea containers and on international shipments of grain.

28 February 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in collaboration with ProNaturaleza, the Peruvian Foundation for the Nature Conservancy, and financed by German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), has released a report titled “BioTrade: A catalyst for transitioning to a green economy in Peru.” The report suggests that BioTrade in Peru has the potential to provide 250,000 new jobs over the next decade.

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), this regional training workshop for Asia-Pacific will discuss concepts, tools and instruments for sharing experiences and lessons learned, as well as strategies for enhancing regional and subregional cooperation on the implementation of the programme of work. The workshop will also raise awareness of the Nagoya–Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress and discuss its ratification and implementation. This panel discussion is being convened by the US National Invasive Species Council, in collaboration with the Global Island Partnership (GLISPA), as part of the opening of the 2013 National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW). In this session, policy leaders and invasive species experts from Pacific, Indian Ocean and Caribbean island countries will discuss the range of invasive species challenges they face, focusing on how leadership, coordination with allied issues and cooperation with partners are key ingredients to their biosecurity, control and eradication efforts.
