UNCCD Organizes Workshop on Impact Indicators for Pilot Countries [viewed]

13 July 2011: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) launched a pilot exercise on tracking impact indicators at the national level. The "inception workshop" for the exercise concluded with an action plan for pilot countries to apply impact indicators on Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought (DLDD), at the national level.

Ramsar Centre for Eastern Africa Holds First Planning Meeting [viewed]

July 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) has reported that the first plannning meeting of the Ramsar Centre for Eastern Africa (RAMCEA) brought together partner States to discuss the operationalization of the Centre. The meeting aimed to: agree on the governance and structure of, and the Strategic Framework for, the RAMCEA; assess the capacity gaps of the different contracting parties; and inform partner States about the RAMCEA, tools for implementing the Ramsar Convention, and national and regional linkages.

Event: CBD Regional Workshop for Arctic States on NBSAPs [viewed]

This workshop, convened by the CBD Secretariat in collaboration with GRID Arendal, UNEP Moscow, CAFF, WWF, and IUCN, among others, aims to bring together Arctic scientists, national biodiversity policy-makers, and other key stakeholders to review how best to integrate the urgent need for biodiversity and ecosystem-based management in the Arctic region into the post-Nagoya revision of NBSAPs, including the setting of appropriate national targets to reflect the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.
