13 July 2011: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) launched a pilot exercise on tracking impact indicators at the national level. The "inception workshop" for the exercise concluded with an action plan for pilot countries to apply impact indicators on Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought (DLDD), at the national level.

July 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) has reported that the first plannning meeting of the Ramsar Centre for Eastern Africa (RAMCEA) brought together partner States to discuss the operationalization of the Centre. The meeting aimed to: agree on the governance and structure of, and the Strategic Framework for, the RAMCEA; assess the capacity gaps of the different contracting parties; and inform partner States about the RAMCEA, tools for implementing the Ramsar Convention, and national and regional linkages.
12 July 2011: A regional workshop on finance and biodiversity, organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Country Support Programme, was held on 9 July 2011, in Dakar, Senegal.
7 July 2011: The regional workshop for Eastern Africa on updating national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs) was held from 27-30 June 2011, in Kigali, Rwanda. A parallel seminar on business and biodiversity was held on 30 June.
July 2011: The Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security Programme (CCAFS) of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) has called for the submission of abstracts for the upcoming conference on "Planet Under Pressure 2012: New knowledge towards solutions."
July 2011: The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) has released an online resource, the Crop Genebank Knowledge Base (CGKB), for genebank managers and conservationists to provide an access point for crop-specific knowledge, practices for germplasm management, and a collection of publications and training materials.
July 2011: The latest issue of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) "Conservation Made Clear" newsletter features articles on conservation efforts in West Asia, including reviving traditional knowledge, restoring drylands and the re-discovery of the Critically Endangered Northern Bald Ibis in the Syrian Palmyra desert.
June 2011: Bioversity International has launched a project titled "Reinforcing the resilience of poor rural communities in the face of food insecurity, poverty and climate change," which works with partners in India, Nepal and Bolivia.
This workshop, convened by the CBD Secretariat in collaboration with GRID Arendal, UNEP Moscow, CAFF, WWF, and IUCN, among others, aims to bring together Arctic scientists, national biodiversity policy-makers, and other key stakeholders to review how best to integrate the urgent need for biodiversity and ecosystem-based management in the Arctic region into the post-Nagoya revision of NBSAPs, including the setting of appropriate national targets to reflect the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.
