Meeting on Animal Genetic Resources Documents Progress on Livestock Diversity [viewed]

FAO24 October 2012: In an effort to stop the loss of livestock genetic diversity, delegates from 80 countries met to present reports and discuss progress on implementing the Global Plan of Action for Animal Genetic Resource. The Plan of Action was developed in 2007, and has been followed by the Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, which met from 24-26 October 2012, in Rome, Italy.

CBD COP 11 Adopts Interim Target and Roadmap for Resource Mobilization [viewed]

COP 11 President Jayanthi Natarajan, Minister of Environment and Forests, India, gavelled the meeting to a close at 3:02 am.22 October 2012: Held from 8-19 October 2012, in Hyderabad, India, the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) adopted 33 decisions on a range of strategic, substantive, administrative, financial and budgetary issues. Delegates agreed to set an interim target of doubling biodiversity-related international financial resource flows to developing countries by 2015, and at least maintaining this level until 2020. This is coupled with targets on improving baseline information, as well as a preliminary reporting framework for monitoring resource mobilization.

Event: Seventh Meeting of the Parties to ASCOBANS [viewed]

The seventh Meeting of the Parties to the Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic, North East Atlantic, Irish and North Seas (ASCOBANS 7) expects to set priorities for the implementation of the Agreement in the coming intersessional period, and to adopt, among others, draft resolutions on the Conservation Plan for the Harbour Porpoise Population in the Western Baltic, the Inner Danish Waters and the Kattegat, and on Impacts of Chemical Pollution on Small Cetaceans.
