27 May 2011: The Leaders of the G8 met in Deauville, France, from 26-27 May 2011, to discuss, inter alia, green growth, climate change and biodiversity. The Summit concluded with the adoption of the G8 Declaration titled "Renewed Commitment for Freedom and Democracy."
24 May 2011: The third expert meeting on South-South Cooperation on Biodiversity for Development was held in Incheon City, Republic of Korea, from 18-20 May 2011, co-hosted by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the National Institute on Biological Resources (NIBR).
23 May 2011: The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) was celebrated around the world on 22 May 2011 under the theme of forest biodiversity, as a contribution to 2011 – International Year of Forests.
20 May 2011: A meeting to follow up on the 10th meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP 10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) took place in Nadi, Fiji, from 16-20 May 2011, on the theme of "Implementing the Nagoya Outcomes: Review and Planning Meeting."
16 May 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has published its Monthly Bulletin of Activities for April 2011, which indicates that the Joint Liaison Group of the Rio Conventions has formalized the terms of reference of modus operandi of the group, identified joint high-level activities for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) as well as the 20th anniversary of the Conventions in 2012, and agreed on new and revised joint publications on climate change adaptation, forests and gender.
9 May 2011: A regional capacity-building workshop for the updating and revision of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) for Eastern African countries will be held from 27-30 June 2011, in Kigali, Rwanda. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited nominations of government representatives for participation in the workshop.
9 May 2011: The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is convening a capacity-building workshop for East, South and Southeast Asia on updating national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs), from 9-16 May 2011, in Xi'an, China.
The workshop is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in collaboration with the Rwanda Environment Management Authority. Its purpose is to: strengthen national capacities for the development, implementation, review, updating and communication of national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs); help facilitate national implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020; and translate the Strategic Plan into national targets and commitments.
4 May 2011: The CITES Secretariat has developed a draft guide for CITES Parties on Contributing to the development, review, updating and revision of NBSAPs.
7 May 2011: Held from 2-7 May 2011, in Beirut, Lebanon, the regional workshop for North Africa and the Middle East on National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) aimed to strengthen national capacities for the development, implementation, reviewing, updating and communication of NBSAPs.
