CBD Secretariat Invites Nominations for High-level Panel on Global Assessment of Resources [viewed]

CBD10 February 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited governments and relevant organizations to nominate experts to serve on a regionally balanced, high-level panel to guide a global assessment of the resources required to implement the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and achieve the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.

Event: IPBES Regional Capacity Building Workshop [viewed]

In preparation for the second session of a plenary meeting on the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the Department of Environment of the Islamic Republic of Iran in collaboration with the ECO Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ECO-IEST), with support from UNEP and financial support from the Government of Norway, is hosting a regional capacity building workshop and consultative meeting for ECO country members, as well as Asia and the Pacific. The objective of this regional gathering is to provide information on the IPBES process so far, present the agenda and documents for the second session of a plenary meeting and facilitate an exchange of views on these among governmental stakeholders.

UNEP Year Book 2012 Highlights Soil Carbon Loss, Nuclear Power Plants Decommissioning [viewed]

Satoyama 4 Features Views on Connections between CBD and Rio+20 [viewed]

February 2012: The fourth issue of Satoyama, a newsletter published by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), contains articles by Heads of State and leaders of international organizations, as well as senior officials. The authors highlight, inter alia: the importance of biodiversity in the sustainable development agenda; human-influenced forces behind biodiversity loss; and collaborations between environmental organizations.

CBD Invites Comments on CHM Draft Work Programme [viewed]

CBD26 January 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited comments on a proposed work programme for the clearing-house mechanism (CHM) in support of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020. The proposed work programme was drafted in consultation with the CHM informal advisory committee, and builds upon the framework defined by the mission, goals and objectives of the CHM in support of the Strategic Plan.

31 January 2012: The Intergovernmental Meeting on the Fifth Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-5) Summary for Policy Makers (SPM) concluded after three days of delibaration. The GEO-5 SPM highlights a number on innovative responses that are required to meet internationally agreed goals in areas such as biodiversity, sustainable development and climate change.

CBD Circulates Report of West African Workshop on Protected Areas [viewed]

CBD24 January 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has published the report of the first sub-regional workshop for West Africa on capacity-building for implementation of the CBD Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA). The workshop focused on the training of trainers using e-learning modules on the PoWPA.
