Event: First Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the Nagoya Protocol on ABS [viewed]

The first meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the CBD Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources and fair and equitable benefit-sharing is organized by the CBD Secretariat. The agenda includes issues related to capacity building, awareness-raising and compliance procedures. It will be preceded by a capacity-building workshop on the Nagoya Protocol, organized by the CBD Secretariat, to be held from 4-5 June 2011.

Book on South Africa's Landscape Approach Launched in Nagoya [viewed]

25 October 2010: A new primer on South Africa's approach to biodiversity was launched by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and the Government of South Africa. The book, entitled “Biodiversity for Development: South Africa's Landscape Approach to Conserving Biodiversity and Enabling Ecosystem Resilience,” highlights tools developed through partnerships between government and civil society in South Africa.

CBD COP 10 Adopts Nagoya Protocol on ABS, Strategic Plan and Activities and Indicators for Resource Mobilization [viewed]

29 October 2010: The 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) concluded on 29 October in Nagoya, Japan, with the adoption of: the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization, which, after seven years of negotiations, sets out rules and procedures for implementing the Convention's third objective; the CBD Strategic Plan for the period 2011-2020, including a mission, and strategic goals and targets aiming to inspire broad-based action by parties and stakeholders; and a decision on activities and indicators for the implementation of the Strategy for Resource Mobilization adopted at COP 9.

UNEP-supported Advanced Prototype of InforMEA Presented at CBD COP10 [viewed]

19 October 2010: An advanced prototype of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP)-supported UN Information Portal on Multilateral Environmental Agreements (InforMEA) has been presented on the sidelines of the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), taking place in Nagoya, Japan. InforMEA is a shared web portal that harmonizes MEA information systems, making it possible to locate and retrieve all decisions and resolutions tagged to a specific term in seconds.
