CBD COP 11 Opens with Focus on Strategic Plan Implementation, Climate and Marine Issues [viewed]

8 October 2012: The 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) opened on 8 October 2012, in Hyderabad, India, directly following the sixth Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. The two-week meeting will address a series of cross-cutting and ecosystem-related issues, as well as financial, administrative and implementation-related topics.

Biosafety COP/MOP 6 Adopts 16 Decisions, Initiates Substantive Work on Socio-economic Considerations [viewed]

5 October 2012: The sixth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP/MOP 6) adopted 16 decisions, including a decision on socio-economic considerations which, for the first time, initiates activities aiming to provide a basis for future substantive work on considerations with regard to socio-economic impacts of living modified organisms.

CBD COP/MOP 6 Opens, Will Discuss International Cooperation in Safe LMO Use [viewed]

1 October 2012: The sixth meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP 6 ) has opened in Hyderabad, India. The meeting will discuss revised guidance for risk assessment and risk management regarding the use of living modified organisms (LMOs), and capacity-building for research and information-sharing regarding socio-economic considerations.

CBD Biosafety Series Compiles Materials on Liability and Redress [viewed]

CBDSeptember 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has released a compilation of materials prepared during the negotiation of the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (Supplementary Protocol). The compilation is issued as part of the CBD Biosafety Technical Series.

Event: UNCCD CRIC 11 [viewed]

The eleventh session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 11) is scheduled to convene from 15-19 April 2013. Regional meetings preparatory to CRIC 11 are expected to convene prior to the event. The third Special Session of the Committee of Science and Technology (CST S-3) and the 2nd UNCCD Scientific Conference will convene immediately before CRIC 11, also in Bonn, Germany.

IPBES-1 Provisional Agenda Announced [viewed]

13 September 2012: The provisional agenda has been circulated for the first plenary meeting of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES-1). IPBES-1 will be hosted by the Government of Germany, and take place in Bonn, Germany, from 21-26 January 2013. Regional and stakeholder consultations will take place on 20 January 2013.

UNFCCC Convenes Informal Session, In-session Workshop on REDD+ [viewed]

5 September 2012: The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held an informal additional session of the Ad hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA), on 30 August 2012, in Bangkok, Thailand. The session included a discussion of policy approaches and positive incentives on issues relating to REDD+.
