		<description><![CDATA[Organized by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS), this expert group meeting will: assess the current status of the marine science and technology situation in the SIDS regions;  identify frameworks for technology transfer of relevant and appropriate marine scientific technologies to SIDS; present the results of the marine science capacity development survey carried out by IOC (as a result of a voluntary commitment taken at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20));  and make concrete recommendations in capacity development that could contribute to the preparatory process towards the 2014 Third International Conference on SIDS. ]]></description>
