30 November 2011: A workshop convened by Monaco on the "Sustainable Use of Oceans in the Context of the Green Economy and Poverty Eradication" focused on sustainability practices in food security, renewable energy and tourism. The workshop aimed to contribute to the outcome document of the UN Conference for Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The workshop concluded with the adoption of the Monaco Message.

The Global Conference on Land-Oceans Connections (GLOC) is being hosted by the Government of the Philippines and is being organized by UNEP. The Conference will immediately precede the Third Intergovernmental Review Meeting (IGR-3) on the implementation of the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA), and will seek to ensure that a contribution from the linked marine and freshwater communities is feed into the Rio+20 process. GLOC will seek to review policy and implementation frameworks addressing key marine and coastal issues and help ensure those frameworks are: contributing effectively to the development of strengthened and resilient marine and coastal ecosystems serving coastal and linked watershed communities, and meeting the new environmental resource management issues, which the international community is facing. This conference also will include the launch of a new UNEP report on the "Green Economy in a Blue World".

28 November 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) has circulated a series of Ecosystem Services Economics Working Papers. The Papers, which are not formal publications of UNEP, aim to reflect the broad range of research activities on economics of ecosystem services, and to encourage discussion on ecosystem services economics among economists, scientists and policy makers.

24 November 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) have signed two financing agreements, committing the two organizations to provide assistance to Pacific coastal communities to adapt to the effects of climate change through improved conservation and sustainable use of fisheries resources.
