3 January 2013: The UN Educational, Scientific and Educational Organization (UNESCO) has reported on the release of a paper, published in Biogeosciences, which addresses nutrient over-enrichment and oxygen depletion from land-based pollution of coastal waters.
January 2013: The report of the fourth meeting of the Ad Hoc Advisory Technical Committee on the Standard Material Transfer Agreement (SMTA) and the Multilateral System (MLS) under the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR), held from 6-7 November 2012, in Rome, Italy, has been made available online.

24 December 2012: In a presidential statement issued on 19 December, the UN Security Council “strongly condemned the ongoing attacks and atrocities carried out by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA)” in Central Africa, and called “on the United Nations and AU to jointly investigate the LRA's logistical networks and possible sources of illicit financing, including alleged involvement in elephant poaching and related illicit smuggling.”
21 December 2012: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has released the first Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of Turkmenistan, which highlights several environmental issues as particular challenges, including: salinization of irrigated lands; water management; desertification; and biodiversity loss.
October 2012: A report prepared by the UN Environment Management Group (EMG) Issue Management Group (IMG) on Biodiversity presents an overview of the contribution of the UN system to the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, including the Aichi targets.
This meeting will discuss the International Tropical Timber Organization-Convention on International Trade in Wild Fauna and Flora (ITTO-CITES) Programme on ensuring international trade in CITES-Listed Timber Species is consistent with their sustainable management and conservation.
