14 December 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) have launched a joint publication titled “Catalysing Ocean Finance,” on 14 December 2012, in Washington, DC, US. The two-volume publication demonstrates how public investment can reverse declines in global ocean health, scale up ocean planning and policy tools, leverage financial flows and transform ocean markets towards sustainability.

14 December 2012: The "Second Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of Tajikistan" conducted by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) highlights that waste management and clean water and sanitation remain challenges for this country. UNECE EPRs cover ten elements including: environmental policymaking, planning and implementation; financing of environmental policies; waste and water management; biodiversity conservation; and integration of environmental issues into energy and health policies.

11 December 2012: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted a resolution on sustainable fisheries that recognizes the contribution of fisheries to sustainable development (document A/67/L.22). The resolution also reflects the call made at Rio+20 for the adoption, by 2014, of strategies to assist developing countries, particularly the least developed countries (LDCs) and small island developing States (SIDS), in developing their national capacity to conserve, sustainably manage and realize the benefits of sustainable fisheries.

13 December 2012: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Ramsar Convention) has reported on the meeting of the management body of the Ramsar regional initiative for Coastal Wetlands of the Black and Azov Seas (BlackSeaWet). The meeting focused on a limited number of priority problems of wetland conservation, management and restoration to be addressed in 2013.
