14 June 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has announced that the new listings of species and the 165 Decisions and 36 Resolutions adopted or revised at the 16th meeting of the CITES Conference of the Parties (CoP16), which convened in Bangkok in March 2013, entered into force on 12 June 2013.
14 June 2013: The heads of Biodiversity International, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) have published an editorial article describing the functions of agricultural biodiversity for human and ecosystem health, as well as threats to this natural resource base.
13 June 2013: Bioversity International announced the outcomes of the first workshop convened under its Gender Research Fellowship Programme on the theme of forest genetic resources, research and gender. The workshop aimed to identify differences between men and women with regard to the management of forests, as well as forest-related skills and knowledge.
11 June 2013: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has released two reports on Brazil nuts, one examining the relationship between Brazil nut and timber harvesting in Peru and a second on the relationship between Brazil nut harvesters and logging operators in Bolivia.
8 June 2013: World Oceans Day was celebrated on 8 June around the theme 'People and Oceans.' The Day is an opportunity to raise global awareness of the current challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans.
6 June 2013: In an effort to help develop the sustainable production of oil from the seeds of Allanblackia species in equatorial Africa, the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) has engaged in a public-private partnership with Unilever and a collection of public non-profit organizations, called the Novella Africa Initiative. The partnership has developed a model for over 10,000 collectors or growers of Allanblackia to plant over 20,000 seedlings in Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania.
5 June 2013: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) have launched 'A toolkit to support conservation by indigenous peoples and local communities,' which highlights community approaches to the conservation of Indigenous Peoples' and Community Conserved Territories and Areas (ICCAs).
The fifth session of the Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) will address, among other issues: implementation of the Treaty's Multilateral System (MLS) of Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS), including reviews and assessment under the MLS and implementation of the Standard Material Transfer Agreement (SMTA); implementation of the ITPGR Funding Strategy; sustainable use of plant genetic resources; Farmers' Rights; implementation of the Global Information System; operation of the Third Party Beneficiary; and Work Programme and Budget for the 2014/2015 biennium. The meeting will be preceded by two days of regional consultations on 22-23 September 2013.

8 May 2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released its Forest Paper No. 170 titled, ‘Sustainable Management of Pinus radiata Plantations.' The report examines plantations starting with site section through to production, with a particular emphasis on Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and Spain.
23 May 2013: In his report to the UN Security Council on the activities of the UN Regional Office for Central Africa and on the Lord's Resistance Army-affected areas, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon highlighted that increases in poaching, mainly targeting elephants, are a growing security concern in Central Africa.
