14 June 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has announced that the new listings of species and the 165 Decisions and 36 Resolutions adopted or revised at the 16th meeting of the CITES Conference of the Parties (CoP16), which convened in Bangkok in March 2013, entered into force on 12 June 2013.

6 June 2013: In an effort to help develop the sustainable production of oil from the seeds of Allanblackia species in equatorial Africa, the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) has engaged in a public-private partnership with Unilever and a collection of public non-profit organizations, called the Novella Africa Initiative. The partnership has developed a model for over 10,000 collectors or growers of Allanblackia to plant over 20,000 seedlings in Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania.

The fifth session of the Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) will address, among other issues: implementation of the Treaty's Multilateral System (MLS) of Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS), including reviews and assessment under the MLS and implementation of the Standard Material Transfer Agreement (SMTA); implementation of the ITPGR Funding Strategy; sustainable use of plant genetic resources; Farmers' Rights; implementation of the Global Information System; operation of the Third Party Beneficiary; and Work Programme and Budget for the 2014/2015 biennium. The meeting will be preceded by two days of regional consultations on 22-23 September 2013.
