June 2011: The members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF), a consortium of 14 forest-related organizations and secretariats, have put together a joint calendar of thematic press releases to disseminate the activities taking place throughout the world to celebrate the International Year of Forests.
17 June 2011: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$4 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to develop a model for low-impact ecotourism in Panama's National System of Protected Areas.
9 June 2011: The June e-Newsletter of the Indian Ocean - South-East Asian Marine Turtle Conservation Memorandum of Understanding (IOSEA) under the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Secretariat features the support by the US National Marine Fisheries Service for sea turtle activities, and the Surfrider Foundation spring clean-up of Reunion's "La Pointe des Châteaux" beach, which took place on 24 March 2011.
9 June 2011: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Nature Conservancy and the FEMSA Foundation have launched a US$27 million dollar initiative to create water funds, private-public partnerships to protect critical watersheds in Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Mexico and other countries.
6 June 2011: The World Heritage Centre of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Panasonic Corporation have announced a strategic partnership agreement to promote sustainable development through World Heritage conservation and environmental education for the next generation.
3 June 2011: The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has announced the 2011 Ulysses Awards, which encourage innovation in tourism. Several of the winning projects focused on environmental protection and sustainable tourism.
1 June 2011: The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) released a report titled "Important Plant Areas of the South and East Mediterranean Region: Priority Sites for Conservation. " The report lists 207 "Important Plant Areas" (IPAs) that support an extraordinary diversity of wildlife, as well as resources for local livelihoods.
May 2011: The May 2011 "Monthly Focus" publication from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) highlights challenges to oceans and seas conservation, including the threats posed by climate change, such as ocean acidification, coral bleaching and its impact on coral reefs, as well as impacts on the tourism and fishing industries and the coastal communities who rely on them.
26 April 2011: The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has published a study, based on surveys conducted in 2009 as part of the IUCN Climate Change and Coral Reefs Working Group global coral reef resilience assessments, on resilience characteristics of the coral reefs in the Bonaire National Marine Park.
21 April 2011: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has launched a community-based natural resource management and mangrove conservation project in the Godavari River Estuary, India.
