Event: Ninth Session of the Compliance Committee of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission [viewed]

The Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) is an intergovernmental organization established under the Constitution of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). It is mandated to manage tuna and tuna-like species in the Indian Ocean and adjacent seas. At its ninth meeting, the Compliance Committee will: perform an overview of the implementation of the IOTC conservation measures; review national reports on the progress of implementation of management measures; review country-based compliance reports; and review issues related to illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

UNEP Global Environmental Alert Service Bulletin Focuses on Lake Urmia, Iran [viewed]

UNEP27 February 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Global Environmental Alert Service (GEAS) has released the February edition of its bulletin, which focuses on Lake Urmia, a hypersaline lake in Iran. The bulletin was produced under the theme of climate change, resource efficiency, ecosystem management, and environmental governance, and focuses on the drying of Lake Urmia and its environmental consequences.
