CMS Small Grants Programme Announces Projects Funded [viewed]

19 November 2012: The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Small Grants Programme (SGP) has announced that after being inactive for several years due to a lack of funding, it issued a call for applications earlier in 2012, and has selected 12 winning projects. It expressed appreciation to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) for its pledge of US$300,000, made at the Tenth Meeting of the  Conference of the Parties (COP 10) in November 2011.

CITES Releases New Documents for CoP 16 [viewed]

CITES19 November 2012: New documents for consideration at the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP 16) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) have been made available on CITES' website. The documents pertain to: the revised Strategic Vision; the decision-making mechanism for a process of trade in ivory; and saiga antelope.

EC Launches Blueprint to Safeguard Europe's Waters [viewed]

15 November 2012: The European Commission has released "A Blueprint to Safeguard Europe's Water Resources,” designed to improve responses to water quality challenges. The Blueprint aims in particular to address lagging achievement towards the Water Framework Directive (WFD) target for reaching “good” ecological status in European waters by 2015.

EEA Report Assess EU Surface Waters, Progress Toward "Good" Status [viewed]

EEA14 November 2012: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published a report assessing the status of European waters in the context of the target set by the EU's Water Framework Directive (WFD) to improve European waters to a “good” ecological status by 2015. According to the report, only 52% of waters are likely to achieve this goal.

Western Indian Ocean States Commit to Resource Mobilization for WIO-CC [viewed]

28 October 2012: Participants in the second technical workshop of the Western Indian Ocean Coastal Challenge (WIO-CC) adopted a declaration committing to fulfill the WIO-CC, including by addressing the need for a resource mobilization and sustainable finance strategy that includes private sector engagement. Representatives from Comoros, France (Réunion), Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, and Tanzania (Zanzibar) attended the workshop, held from 22-26 October 2012, in Port Louis, Mauritius.
