24 January 2013: The UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) and the Government of Turkey have entered into a Host Country Agreement, in which Turkey makes specific arrangements for the forthcoming tenth session of UNFF (UNFF 10). UNFF 10 will take place from 8-19 April 2013, in Istanbul, Turkey.
23 January 2013: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has released a report on the precautionary principle and technological innovation titled “Late Lessons from Early Warnings: Science, Precaution, Innovation,” which includes 20 historical and contemporary case studies.

As part of the Post-2015 Development Agenda Global Thematic Consultations, this High-Level Leadership Meeting will bring together Member States, non-governmental organizations and civil society to discuss and agree on an agenda on hunger, food security and nutrition for the Post-2015 Development Framework in Madrid, Spain in early April 2013. This consultation is co-led by FAO and WFP, and co-hosted by the Governments of Spain and Colombia.
7 January 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) GRID-Arendal has reported that the fourth Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea (Tehran Convention) welcomed the launch of the Caspian Environmental Information Centre (CEIC).
21 December 2012: The European Commission (EC) has announced that it will contribute €1.73 million to INTERPOL in support of its Project Combat Wildlife Crime, which operates under the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC) and includes the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the World Bank and the World Customs Organisation. In addition, the EC will be providing €2 million to the MIKE programme, which monitors elephant poaching across Africa.
21 December 2012: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has released the first Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of Turkmenistan, which highlights several environmental issues as particular challenges, including: salinization of irrigated lands; water management; desertification; and biodiversity loss.
20 December 2012: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published a report on the impacts of invasive alien species (IAS) in Europe, aiming to raise awareness and inform all stakeholders, including the general public about the environmental and socioeconomic impacts of IAS.
