Organized by Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD ), in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme - Regional Office of West Asia (UNEP-ROWA), the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, the League of Arab States, and the Biodiversity Indicators Partnership, the Regional Workshop for the Middle East and North Africa on Updating National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) will assist countries from the Middle East and North Africa in revising and updating their NBSAPs in line with the framework of the CBD Strategic Plan. The workshop will focus on: target setting, stakeholder engagement and the development of country-specific plans for mobilizing financial resources for the implementation of NBSAPs; and the use of biodiversity indicators to monitor biodiversity at national and regional levels in the context of monitoring progress towards the global Aichi Biodiversity Targets.

The 43rd meeting of the Pacific Island Forum (PIF 43) will take place from 27-31 August 2012. The meeting will be preceded by a Smaller Island States (SIS) Leaders' Meeting and Pacific African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States Leaders' Meeting. PIF 43 will include a Formal Session, Leaders' Retreat, and post-Forum Dialogue Partners' Plenary Session. Also at this meeting the world's largest marine park, announced by the Cook Islands in December 2011, will be launched.

The Eastern Tropical and Temperate Pacific regional workshop to facilitate the description of ecologicallly or biologically significant marine areas (EBSAs) is convened by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Permanent Commission for the South Pacific (CPPS). It will include one day of training on the application of CBD EBSA criteria and a four-day workshop.
