Braulio Dias Begins Tenure as CBD Executive Secretary
15 February 2012: Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias has begun his tenure as the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
Braulio Dias succeeded Ahmed Djoghlaf, who had served as Executive Secretary since January 2006.
Previously the National Secretary for Biodiversity and Forests at Brazil's Ministry of the Environment, Braulio Dias also has served as a member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Vice-President of the International Union of Biological Sciences, and Coordinator of the Steering Committee of the Inter-American Biodiversity Information Network.
Assuming his post, Dias stressed that his priority will be the Convention's implementation. [CBD Press Release]
