CITES Improves Virtual Course for Customs Officials
19 July 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has announced that an updated and improved version of the course for customs officials is now available through the CITES Virtual College. The course is designed to assist officials in identifying and processing specimens of CITES-listed species.
The course includes: practical information on verifying CITES permits and certificates; advice on dealing with confiscating specimens, and health and safety issues; and use of the CITES Appendices and Checklist. The new version of the course is offered in English, French and Spanish. It is open to customs officials, CITES authorities and persons involved in work related to CITES.
Funding for the web version of the course was provided by the European Commission. Support was also provided by the International University of Andalusia, by hosting the CITES Virtual College. The course is based on the version originally published on disk with support from Canada. [CITES Press Release]
